Cottage pie is already comfort food, but the mash is where it can get a bit plain. Chooki's Original Chicken Salt gives the top that hot-chip savoury hit while the beef stays rich underneath.
- 1kg potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 40g butter
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 500g beef mince
- 1 brown onion, diced
- 1 carrot, diced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef stock
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 teaspoons Chooki's Original Chicken Salt
Step 1: Make the Mash
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15 to 18 minutes until tender. Drain, then mash with butter, milk, and 1 teaspoon Chooki's Original Chicken Salt.
Step 2: Cook the Beef
Heat the olive oil in a frypan over medium-high heat. Cook the mince for 5 minutes, breaking it up well, then add onion and carrot and cook for another 5 minutes.
Step 3: Simmer the Filling
Stir in tomato paste, stock, peas, and the remaining Chooki's Original Chicken Salt. Simmer for 8 to 10 minutes until thick, then spoon into a baking dish.
Step 4: Bake
Spread the mash over the beef, rough it up with a fork, and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden on top.
Tip: Rough fork lines in the mash give you more crispy bits. That is where the seasoning shines.
